Opening day started with a snow storm which lingered for over a week. This has been one of the coldest spring and summer I've seen in a long time. My best friend this season has been my rain gear!
The fish don't seem to mind the rain and cool temperatures. I'm doing a lot more trolling this year and walleyes have responded very well to this type of presentation.
My favourite trolling rig is a gold hammered crawler harness and chartreuse single bladed leach harnesses.
On some of the smaller walleye and pike lake s I've been using blue hot and tots and also the above crawler and leach harnesses.
My recipe for trolling these rigs if I'm using a gas motor is to have between 80' to 100' of line out. A little shorter if your usin body baits. ( If you are using an electric trolling motor you can shorten your lead considerably.)

Just want to let everyone know that the walleye fishing is the best I have experienced in many years. I have posted a few pictures of a trip I took last weekend with my son Noel and Jamie who drove up from Sudbury. The fishing was so good that my oldest son Noel returned this weekend and we found the walleyes picked up right where they left off last weekend. Many large walleyes in the 20'' to 24'' were caught and quickly released. These walleyes responded to leaches drifted on medium bobbers with light line rigs.

Salmon fishing on Lake Superior has picked up the last week and now I've been told a run of cohoes have just shown up in Michipicoten Bay. I hope I have time next week to catch a few of these
